Third-Year DTP Students Get Physical To celebrate October being National Physical Therapy Month, Boston University’s Third Year DTP (Doctor of Physical Therapy) Students put on an event in Marsh Plaza on October 22, Let’s Get Physical… Therapy. (Elizabeth Murphy/BU News Service) The event had three stations set up for students to test their health and understand how physical therapists identify health problems and work to rehabilitate patients. The first station taught students how physical therapists test balance and work to improve poor balance. (Elizabeth Murphy/BU News Service) The second station was a Cardiopulmonology station testing the health of students’ heart and lungs. The third year DTP students working at this station were equipped with a device similar in appearance to a breathalyzer that tests one’s lung capacity and functionality. (Elizabeth Murphy/BU News Service) The third station is what Sarah Morris, DTP ’14, describes as “what people typically think of when they think of physical therapy”. Strength and flexibility exercises are common among athletes and sports injury rehabilitation. (Elizabeth Murphy/BU News Service) The event was sponsored by Neurodrink and Kind Bars. Free products were given out along Comm Ave to raise awareness of the different types of physical therapy that exist and the many benefits of physical therapy.
